John, I don't know who is making the wheels but I do see them for sale from a large dealer at Pamona swap meet. I also see them at Long Beach swap meet which happens to be tomorrow 12/11. Regards, Marv from Camarillo

Default Rallye Wheels

John,
There are two different types of 17" rallye wheels manufactured, both from a company called Wheel Vintiques located in Fresno, CA. First is a steel version which has a stock 15" rallye center with larger outside hoops to make it fit a 17" tire. Second, is a billet aluminum version available in 16" to 20" sizes with the center being the same as the hoops (17" center for a 17" tire). Obviously, pricing depends on the options you want. I hear Newstalgia Wheel is cheaper for the base polished billet wheel, and Wheel Vintiques is cheaper if you want the powder coated gray centers. Newstalgia offers free shipping and there would be no state tax.

I got a 67 F-body and used a great tire size calculator when I changed sizes..

Just came across your post and saw your 67' Firebird. Enjoyed taking a look at your restoration pictures. My very first car was a 67' Firebird that I purchased used very late in October of 1968 for around $2000. It started off as a automatic with stock 326 engine. It ended up housing a 4 spd Muncie with 400 Ram Air IV Coded WW engine. It came from a recently wrecked at the time 70' GTO Judge with 4k on the odometer. The car ran strong with that engine and a set of 433 gears sitting in the posi rear end. Looking at your resto pictures of your dash reminded me of my car where I installed 3 Stewart Warner Gauges in the area right above the heat selector. They really looked sharp sitting in the dash there.

I kinda still miss that car some. The one thing that stands out in my mind about that car that I never liked was trying to stop the car with the factory 4 whl. manual drum brake system that came with the car. If I had kept the car into my later years I definetly would of made the change as I see you did in putting a set of Disc brakes on the front of it. The other problem with the car was Pontiacs crappy single leaf rear spring set up in 67' and the stupid way they positioned the rear shocks on the car. Both shocks were mounted behind the axle causing wheel hop when racing it stock at the track or on the street. Chevrolet had a better idea, they staggered the rear shocks on the Camaro. One shock in front of the axle and one shock in the rear of it. A friends stock 68' Camaro at the time didn't have any wheel hop what so ever. The use of traction bars was needed on my car to cure the wheel hop problem. I ended up selling the Firebird in late 70' early 71' and purchased my first Corvette a 67' Vert.

Great story, thanks for sharing it..

This was my father-in-laws car, who was the second owner, purchased in 1974. I literally pulled it out of a dust field on propety he owned in Nevada.. it hadn't ran in 15 years.. and was in very bad shape.

But she was taken to school in it, and is a very special memory to her. He has since passed. Frankly, I could of bought a Vette for the money I have spent, but she hasn't once complained about the cost.

I am expecting to drop a 467 Butler in this spring, so I'll learn about your wheel hop soon. It currently has a 290hp YD400 from a 69 GTO/Cat/Bonnie??

Thanks for the warm welcome. I came here looking for the new Camaro pics and saw this thread, the tire size calc was a big help to me and wanted to share it..
