Default Convertible Top Tack Strips..plastic or fiberboard

I am getting ready to replace my top and I found a new plastic tack strip kit (complete w/hardware) at a swap meet, but I notice that most vendors have a fiberboard kit. Has anyone used the plastic kit when installing and top and did you have any problems? Thanks for any info as I would like to do this right the first time.

I spoke to Al Knoch when making this decision. He strongly recommended the original type material, which was a type of highly compacted paper (likely what you refer to as fiberboard). I took his word for it, and it worked very well.

You might want to order your tack strip from Al Knoch. I have seen some that do not look as well made as the ones he sells.

Fiberboard and water do not go together. Fiberboard is made useing wood ( holds water ) and glue; mostly glue. This might explain why so many have rust issues. Your putting some thing that holds water in something that is to keep water out.

Did not know they used wood on a vert. I'd go with plastic if it's strong enough.

Thanks for the info. I have an Al Knoch top assembly and ready to replace the top. What, if any, problems or concerns do you have with installing the top? Again, any info will help me.

Plastic is better functionally. I have had it on my Corvettes since '82.

I have used urethane strips on the last 4 tops that I've done and the installation is very easy if you heat the strips before installing. It makes them conform the the groove easier.

Did you get these urethane strips from Al Knoch?
Are these the strips for the bow (top and bottom) and rear above the window?
What are the aprox thickness and width dimentions.

Thanks
Chuck
