I called Jim Myer racing and asked what torque specifications I should use for the carrier to the pumpkin nuts that attach to the carrier bolts......they told me "nice and tight"....when I asked how much that was, he said, nice and tight...ha-ha....so anyone got an idea of what torque I should use?

The bolts on the carrier are 3/8-24, and according to Greg should be grade 8...anyone got a good idea of what the torque should be?

Don't have my books available, but here is a link to a handy torque table that should be "close".

Says for Grade 8, 3/8" fine thread use 49 ft-lbs (and yes, Ft-Lbs, not Lbs-Ft - but same diff.).

Note that the thread lube type always plays a part in determining tightening torque, so go easy (and then nice and tight - I know, you have heard that before).

It's one of those items that are rarely torqued. Just make sure its seated correctly and work around it tightening each one till snug, then go around again make em a little tighter then a final good snug. If you use a box wrench for the final tight sequence it would be hard to make them too tight.

that is about what Greg said.....I will put some antiseize paste on the threads, figuring that will let me get a much truer torque on snugging them up....

31. Ensure Ring And Pinion Mesh Smoothly Around Entire Ring Gear Surface. Replace 3Rd Member In Axle Housing. I Gave Up On Gaskets, As They Tended To Leak For Me. I Use Only Gasketmaker Between The Housing And 3Rd Member. Install Brass Washers. They May Have To Be Bent Back Into Shape If They Were Deformed Upon Removal. Torque 3Rd Member Nuts In A Criss-cross Pattern To 30-40 Ft-lbs. Install Axles And Torque 4 Nuts To 50-75 Ft-lbs. Install Brake Drums, Wheels And Road Test.
