Default Question About Steering Wheel Hub For '67

Hello,

On my '67 (non telescopic wheel), there are a couple of the steering wheel mount screws that will not tighten because the threads in the hub are stripped. Therefore I have been looking for another hub. In the Corvette Central catalog, they only list one for a telescopic wheel at about $55.00. Then in the other catalog that I have (Volunteer), they list one hub as fitting both tele and non-tele cars for $115.00. I'm a little confused as to which hub I would actually need. If any of you guys could help, I would appreciate it...I'd like to get my steering wheel tight again!

PS: if any of you guys have a good used hub, that would work as well.

Could you possibly insert heli-coils in the stripped holes?

The 67 wheel is differant than 63-66. The center spoke lays under the other two at the hub. The hub therefore has a notch machined in it for the center spoke. I don't know if the hub it'self is differant on a tele steering columm from non-tele.

After looking at it again I think that heli-coils may work. I'll certainly try that first.

Default Hub

I helicoiled my original one many (at least 15) years ago, and it is still holding.

'67 standard and telescopic both use the same hub.

Default Me too....

same here - I did the Helicoil trick in 1990 and they're still holding just fine! I also recommend using a little Locktite on the screws when you reinstall the wheel, as I once noticed 3 of mine were loose at the same time! Not a pleasant thought to contemplate the wheel coming off in your hands while you're going around a corner.....................
