Default Engine storage stand

Does anybody make an inexpensive engine storage stand. What I am looking for is a short stand I can use for transporting an engine in the back of a pickup or storing the engine on the floor. A regular engine stand is too high to put in the back of a pickup, I want something that resembles a test stand without the extras for about 50 - 75 dollars. I searched the web with no luck.

Thanks
Randy

Harbor Freight or Northern Tools has what you are looking for. For a few bucks more, check with Scoggins-Dickey Chevrolet. They have a nice one that will allow a transmission to remain installed.

In my garage I use a mover's dolly. Support the block with 2x4 or 4x4 pieces; rolls REAL easy. Cheap at Harbor Freight or Sam's club!

The one in the photo is identical to the one I purchased from Harbor freight. The casters are not the best, but if you are working on smooth surfaces and don't move it a lot, it will work fine.

The one in the pic is also sold by just about all of the "Taiwan Tool" sellers at major flea markets.

I have 2 of them. Perfect for me. Chuck

I have two of them as well, they seem to be tailored specifically to the Chevy engine line (that is, the ability to actually bolt the side supports to the engine) but will work with Olds engines as well, that is without the ability to use the side support bolts... I picked mine up at Carlisle a few years ago for pretty cheap. I may pick up one more this year (I seem to be inundated with engines in my garage for some reason)...

The unit pictured here will work fine, however if you need to move it around, you had better push it backwards. Otherwise it has a tendency to tip over forward, on any surface that is not 100% flat and smooth.

I use a pair of MotoFeet bolted to a wooden pallet with casters on it; I can roll it out of the way when I'm not working on it, and it allows assembly of the clutch, bellhousing, and tranny.

They are free at Winn-Dixie, Publix, Jewel-Osco, Krogers, Standard, Food Lion, Grand Union, or whatever your favorite grocery store may be.

I have 8-10 of them. Bought them anywhere from $22.50 to $27.50 at tool sales. They're sturdy enough to hold an engine with 4 speed transmission bolted to the back of it.

I took one stand like this and made an engine test stand out of it. Mounted a radiator, battery, fuel tank, switch and wiring. You can move the engine around while it's running.

I have a home-made rig similar to JohnZ. It is convenient for pushing the motor out of the way (storage), and gets it off of the engine stand. Have also used it when transporting a block for machine work.
