Default My 66 Coupe has color on it now! Pics

My car was painted Sunday. Two coats sealer, three coats color, two more coats misted color to even out the metallic and four coats clear. Some color sanding today and buffing later this week before the paint gets too hard.

Man that looks beautiful!!!! Just a silly question how do they keep the paint from getting all over the underside of the car? Do they wrap the underside also? After all the time I've spent cleaning and painting the underside to look like new I'd hate to have over spray on everything once I make it to the paint stage... Dave

If you look close at the pictures you can see a line on the floor where they taped the paper right to the floor to seal off the under carriage. The gills on the side of the car are taped off from the inside.

What is the shade of that paint. I had forgotten how nice that can look. Mine is a darker shade and I don't care for it.

What did the paint job run you if you don't mind me asking? That's look beautiful and will look even better once you have all the trim back on.

Dennis - looks great!

When my car was painted - I had no overspray, The painter individually wrapped the interior, engine bay, and under carriage with paper and tape.

Looks fantastic!! I LOVE the silver I'm heading up later this afternoon to pick mine up from the body shop (Rich, "BADBIRDCAGE" is riding shotgun). All of the body work is done and it's in primer/sealer. Now it's time to mock up the drivetrain again and figure out how to stuff 15 lbs of crap in a 10 lb bag Between the LS7, dry sump, computer, coolers, induction pipe, hydraulic clutch and other goodies there won't be much room to spare!!

Be sure to post some pics for us when you get the car home and back together. It's going to be a sweet looking ride

The color is a conversion of the original 1966 Silver Pearl formula. The former paint was lacquer but this is urethane/clear. I will get the brands and the codes that they mixed to get this. It is going to change a bit when it gets buffed out. Also when I get some trim and chrome back on it and get it in the sun it will look a bit different.
6t5c2-The final cost is still out there and hasn't been calculated yet. I will post that up here when we get it together.
Thanks for your comments guys.

Beautiful. Ask for the leftover paint from the can or paint gun. It would be nice to have around in case of a chip later on.

Default Lookin Good in the Hood

Nothing beats a mid year Corvette. IMO a BB Corvette is the ultimate muscle car. Style, horsepower and a cool color just don't get no better than your car. Good luck and Congrats

Many "silver" cars tend to look more grey than silver, thus it's not been one of my favorite colors to consider for my C2.

But, having seen yours, I'm changing my mind. Yours is a true silver with depth. Really impressive

You stated that two coats of "misted color" were used to even out the metallics. Could you explain how that was done? Is it some color mixed in with clear, or the color coat sprayed on dry/misted?

I'm planning to paint a '66 in Nassau Blue and do not know if metallic is involved and it is any harder to spray than a solid color. I know the basecoat/clearcoat system makes painting metallics a lot easier.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ralph.

With metallics if you paint in straight lines, you will tend to get "Tiger Stripes" as I call them, because of the heavyness of the metallic particles. I have only done 2 metallic paint jobs, and what I did was to keep the gun moving really fast in all different directions after the intial laydown of color. Kinda keeping the paint agitated in the gun as you spray.
