Default '58 block #-correct?

I may be wrong, but I thought a '58 Corvette block # was only 3737739 and nothing else. It seems I'm wrong or this guy has a problem.

You're wrong. #519 is also correct.

(I pointed this out to you on that '58 block thread in the parts section... I don't think you saw it)

I know, I found your previous post after I stated this. Seems like a lot of money though, no?

I agree, an absolute ton of money. No discussion of the pad, either.

I have a 519 in the 59 el camino. Maybe I should dress it up?

F1210DB, with 3755550 heads, the block is 3756519. Its a Flint Dec 10/58, 230 HP 4jet, was a powerglide, but now a 4 speed. I know its not a vette motor, but some people could make it one?

I won't, I like it where it is.

??? That link takes me to a 59 270 Hoeurse<sic> Duel <sic> Quad motor. It's a 519 block. Nothing about the pad or casting date. The seller should take spelling classes.

Am I missing something? Chuck

Chuck, the original link takes you to the horrifically-spelled Corvette motor ad on ebay. We discussed 739 block #'s, vs. #519 as in the ad.

Later posts discussed someone's non-Corvette 519 block, and my last post pointed out the block casting problem if someone tried to pass it off as a Corvette.

The thread kinda took on a life of its own!

Ah, I missed something. But......in the following quote

I think Don is saying his block was also ??? cast on Dec. 10 of 1958. He didn't necessarily say it was cast 12 10 58 as opposed to 12 10 8. (numbers used for month instead of letters) SO, it likely is a Flint block, not a Tonawanda block.

The F in the stamp indicates this is a Flint block, assembled on Dec. 10. Don't have the code book for DB.

On another note , I wanted to point out the number is 3753519 and not 3756519. Still correct?

Naw, if he were French, he would have surrendered when you asked him a question.

Correct '58 block # is 3756519 according to the Black Book and the NCRS manual.

Poor spelling is one of my pet peeves on EBAY.

There are many ads with GROSS mis-spellings, and many ads that exhibit poor word and sentence structure. It boggles my mind.

One would think that if you wanted to sell something, you would take the time to correctly "word" the ad, and spell the words correctly.

Typo's occur, and that's understandable, BUT......

Another pet peeve? PEOPLE THAT TYPE IN ALL CAPS...............

These are the same people who don't know what a paragraph is either.

You look at an entire page of an ad IN ALL CAPS, ALL RUN TOGETHER, and ............................

I don't even bother reading it.

Another pet peeve? In many car ads, people include some "cut and paste" history.

"In 1953, Bill Mitchell designed........................... etc., AND it goes on for pages. You are given stats on the bore and stroke and compression ratios of dead stock engines, the entire color selection chart for the year in question, etc. TOO much information.

Rant over. Chuck

Just out of curiosity, did the 519 get used in a vette in 59 too? The heads are 59 only according to Mortec.

As above, the 3753519 # is in the small pic 3rd down on left in that Ebay ad.

According to NCRS, the "519" block was used "Mid to late 58 thru late 61 engines".

Very late 61's used the "935". Chuck

So now I can join that club of people who have a non vette with a "vette motor". I know, its not a very exclusive club because it seems to me a lot of people have a "vette motor".
