66 327 banging noise at full throttle

These last few posts have a lot of good suggestions to check out. I will get back under the car and see if I can tell what's what. There's got to be some evidence somewhere. Thanks

I am going to get under the car soon and check these suggestion out. If it turns out that the rivets are broken at the luggage stop, is it going to be fixable? I am going to be taking out the old carpets soon. Might be a good time to get it fixed.

Check the SNUBBER GROMET ABOVE FRONT OF REAR END .
Large rubber spacer sounds like that when you get on it if its worn .

Stick a hockey puck on top of the trans crossmember on each side to space the floor pan up from the frame (the thickness of a hockey puck is the design gap) and see if that helps - if the thumping/noise stops, that's pretty good evidence that the floor has sagged and needs fixing.

Hockey pucs
Hey Big T: I bought my pucs used from Play It Again Sports in Tampa. it has been a few years, but they had a store in north Tampa on or near Dale Mabry. I paid $1 each. I may have a few left over. Jerry

I am getting new carpet installed so when the old carpet was taken out we could see the luggage stop. For sure there were broken rivets and the thing was not securely fastened. This was all fixed, even better than original. I will get the car back Monday and can hardly wait to see if the banging has stopped. I feel confident that it has. Here are some pictures of how it looked.

Yeah - I would say there's a good chance fixing that will solve your problem. Those luggage stop panels seem to take a lot of abuse over the years.

Well, based on the looks of the luggage stop 'rust' and unless you put in a new luggage stop, I would still get some 'pucks' and put under there just in case the 'rust' breaks away....

We shored the thing up with some new metal. It should be as good as new. I wish I had gotten a picture of it before they put the carpet on. Just for insurance I may put the hockey pucks in there too.

My 66 and 65 both needed the spacers. I used the Keisler Body Supports added when the tremec went in. Solved the problem. Also I had the same problem with the poly snubber bushings, they are too thin, use the rubber ones only.
