Is there a paint removal chemical, etc., that is safe to use on fiberglass that has had many paint jobs, or maybe just one very thick paint job?

This is what I'm going to use to strip the paint.

There are other tips for prepping a fiberglass body for paint after chemical stripping and I am sure others will add to this post.
Good luck!

what kind of paint is on it? lacquer, enamel, single stage, or base coat/clear coat? chemical stippers are messy, a razor blade works VERY well on lacquer.

Bill,
The razor works great on urethane enamel, too. The forgiving part about lacquer, is that lacquer thinner will easily remove any missed lacquer. Not so with urethanes, gotta use stripper on them if not razor.

I have two gallons of Captain Lees paint remover that works great for Corvettes as well as various scrappers and the really nice spray bottle (optional type that pumps up with pressure for spraying on surface, not the windex type). These are for sale since I decided to go with media blasting of the entire body. If you are interested, I would be glad to sell them to you.
When I decided to paint everything top and bottom, it made more sense to me to have it blasted with media. Cost of the media blast was $1200.
Let me know if you want to buy these from me....
regards, Herb

I have stripped several vettes, some using chemical and some using soda blasting. If your $$$ is tight and you have time use chemical, if you are in a hurry and have the $$$$ to spend I would use soda blast.
