I've gone down a lot of blind alleys while maintaining and improving my 67, and I'm glad to share the knowledge.

After 40 years.. those end bolts on the leaf are frozen on............ I cut them off, and decided to maybe just try and use the shorter bolts like Bill suggested as a quick fix... while I wait for a better spring.
Thanks Bill.
The rear of my car was so tight to the 205/75/15 Goodyears that you could just barely get an ink pen inbetween the rubber and the fender.
After the shorter bolts.... I went with 4inch vs the factory 7... There is now about a solid inch of clearance between the top of the tire and the fender!!!
I think now I am going to try and put on the 7inch Chrome Rally's with 215-70-15's
Thanks a bunch everybody who helped me on this thread. I will post pics... once she is on the road.

After reading all these posts, it seems that 215/70/15 is the correct tire for '64 front stock (15/6 w/3.5 bs) steel rims.
It is not clear to me what the biggest tire you can mount on the rear. Is 225/70/15 too large?
Thanks...

You might check out this thread: Rally Wheels on a C2
Here is one post:
NOTE: That mashinter car has 3" rings on the rear and 2 3/4" rings on the front. Cool, huh?
FOOTNOTE: Got the trade made for 2 w 4 1/4" BS for the front to clear the fenders.
Plan to run 215/70R15's all around.
Here is one post:
Not all C3 wheels are 8"; notice the rear wheels take the 8" ring and they look deeper, but they are actually 7" wide.
PS: I have an extra pair of the C3 1968 Corvette Rally wheels 15x7 w 3 3/4" backspace like those shown on the rear in the image above.Looking to trade or a pair of 15x7 Monte Carlo or equal 4 1/4" backspace for my fronts. Yes, I need 2 sets of wheels; more is better!

On another note, if you are willing to move the parking brake brackets from the sides to the tops of the trailing arms, you can much more serious rubber on your Sting Ray. Here's my car with Nitto NT01 245/45/17 autocross tires on 7" wide wheels with 4.75" backspacing. If I had any clearance problems (other than the fronts rubbing against the frame in parking maneuvers) I would have known it after 16 autocrosses this year. One can go to a max of 8" wide wheel and 5.0" backspacing on a midyear, as on a friend's '66. IMHO 17" all-chrome wheels overwhelm a midyear with glitter, but the dark centers make the wheels look smaller. I have the original 6" rally wheels and trim rings with 215/65/15 Yokohamas, but the race tires make the car so much more stable on any road, and stick like glue (on dry roads!) compared to a normal tire, that I've been running around on them for months.

Based on my experience over many years of putting them on around fifteen 63-67s of my own, the 215/65/15 size is the largest you can fit on with absolutely no chance of going fender damage. This includes autocrossing my current 67 roadster. I discovered last year that the LF tire did slightly ding the fender lip during an autocross spinout, because the original springs on the car were too soft and allowed too much compression to happen during that violent manuever. However, that's as far as damage to any Sting Ray I've owned with 216/65/15 tires, including a nearly 5,000-mile drive in 2004 that included unpaved roads coming out of Yellowstone Park. I also like that I can fit a 215/65/15 spare in the tire tub if I use the "long" tub bolts, although the tub lid stays open (downward) about an inch. My 2 cents.

215-65R 15`s on the stock 6 inch rim will fit perfectly...I searched this situation extensively and they don't need any body modifications .......nice footprint too......
but whatever,
those 70 series tires are taller and skinner, especially from the rear....

Too much back space. You can't exceed ~4" on a '64 without rubbing on the spring or... I run ZR225/60/15s on 7" wide Western Wheels with a shade <3-7/8" BS with less than 1/4" too spare at both the spring and stock wheel lip.
