Default 61 Fuel Gauge Question-Voltage??

What is the voltage on the brown wire from the fuel gauge to the
sending unit in the tank??
What is the OHMS of the sending unit (is it 30 OHMS?).
Can you calibrate the gauge with the sending unit to read
correctly??

My gauges where restored by a restoration shop, so I hope they
are OK. I have a seperate ground wire directly to the battery from the
sending unit, which is also new(30 OHMS).

A full tank shows only 1/4 of a tank on the gauge.

The C1 sending unit should show 0-2 ohms from the sender terminal to ground with the tank empty, and 30-33 ohms with the tank full. Did you test the sending unit before you installed it?

JOHNZ>>>>Thanks for your reply,

Empty I have 1.5 OHMs and full 31 OHMs. It is a aftermarket
sending unit in a stainless tank.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the voltage on the brown
wire from the gauge to the sending unit. I know 12 volts goes to the
gauge, but leaving on the brown wire I not sure what it is suppose to
be. I was told on some cars only 6volts went to the sending unit. If
this is true, how do they regulate this voltage????

THANKS

The fuel gauge is calibrated to measure the resistance from the sending unit and thus the needle on the gauge moves. If your sending unit in the tank is reading correct ( which it appears to be), the next step is your gauge. It must be faulty.

To check the gauge function, with the key "on", disconnect the brown wire at the sender, and the gauge should show full deflection to "full"; then ground the end of the brown wire, and the gauge should show full deflection to "empty". If the gauge doesn't respond in that manner, there's a problem with the gauge or the wiring between the sending unit and the gauge.

I would agree its in the gauge. I have 6.2 Volts to ground on the brown wire to sending unit. I guess my question is does anyone know how to calibrate the fuel gauge?

I know I could send it in to be done, but I just paid to have all my gauges restored and this is how it came back(it wasn't cheap)!
I called them and they want another $50 to calibrate it.

JohnZ>>>>Yes full with brown wire removed from sending unit
and empty grounded.

They should have calibrated it when you had the gauges redone.
You cannot do this on your own. You need to have a professional gauge technician do this. I suspect there is something other then calibration wrong with it if you are getting 6.2 volts to ground!!! It has a short.
