Default 67 & 68 steering columns basically same?

I have noticed that 67 & 68 steering columns share similar parts. Is the only basic difference the firewall mountings?

They are very different. The main difference is the main mounting bracket that bolts it up under the dash. The 68 will not bolt into a 67. The 67 uses some unique parts including the brake and clutch pedal assembly, the addapter plate that bolts to it, which then the steering column attaches to the plate. The three bolt pattern on the 67 column is very different than the 68.
Some of the steering column parts are interchangeable such as the turn signal switch and the hub. If you need a complete 67 column, good luck and be prepared to pay some major bucks, it is a one year only item!! By the way, 63-66 won't work either.

Thanks for the reply.

They don't appear to be all THAT different. Have you (or anybody) actually tried to bolt a '68 column into a '67? (I am NOT talking about a '69+ column). I know the two columns are somewhat different, but I have seen stranger things happen.

I have a friend with a 468/oval port heads and a square port intake on it. That intake wasnt suppose to fit either, but it did, and runs 10.90's all day.

I have a 67 column laying here, but I don't have a 68 column. I wish I could lay them side by side and take a picture for you. My memory says the bolt orientation is actually reversed on the mount. Nope, I have never tried to put a 68 column in a 67, amd I don't plan to try in the future.
Of course, a creative guy could fabricate the necessary changes to make it work, if there is a will, there is a way....Do you have either a 67 or a 68 column in your possession??
