Default Cluster removal?

Alright.. how on earth do you get the cluster out? I need to get the tach out and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the cluster out so I can remove it...

Thanks
Scott

The cluster on your 62 is bolted down with 5 or 6 bolts running along the perimeter of the housing where the housing touches the dash pad. If you lay on your back under the dash and look straight up, you'd see the bolt heads.

It's been 20 years since I pulled a cluster from a 62, but I can't think of anything other than all of those bolts. I assume you've got the speedo and tach cables, and oil line disconnected?

All wiring disconnected... speedo and tach disconnected... outboard side wants to pull out but the inboard just won't come out... I have checked and double checked everything... totally baffled at this point... and frustrated to say the least...

Thanks Jeff!

It seems to me (remember, 20 year old memory) that it is possible for the threaded shafts in the housing that the bolts go into, could get pulled down into the holes in the dash skeleton when the bolts were tightened.

Are you trying to lift the cluster straight towards the driver, or are you trying to lift it UP and then towards the driver?

YOU NAILED IT Jeff... the threaded shafts are cinched down into the skeleton... got one off and just need an extra set of hands to get at the inboard side.. NICE MEMORY!!!!

Well... I have decided to replace the dash since I have gone this far... something I have wanted to do since I got the car and now it only seems like the logical thing to do... I will also replace all of the bulbs that in there...

THANKS again!!

Scott

Just a tid bit of advice. I wish I would have done this. Put a new wiring harness in while the dash/cluster is out. I will cost a little more but it will be well worth it.
Good Luck, with the dash. it's a PITA
