Default Resto-mods at Barrett-Jackson

it looks as though the crowd at Barrett-Jackson is willing to pay more for the Rest-mod than the all numbers matching vette...unless it is really rare or unique.

they had a beauiful 67 Rally Red BB coupe and it sold around 90K...that was a deal on that beautiful car...thats one time I wish I was there to steal that car even with the buyers commision it would have been a good price.

Did anyone see that blue resto-mod mid-year that was built in 93? that thing was ugly and I think it got 80 or 90K

The one that blew my mind was the convert Challenger (?) that was originally a 318 car that now had a hemi in it. I think that was near $125k???? Woof.

That was the blue with the huge rear spoiler. The spoiler was out of proportion to the rest of the car.

The prices paid on some of these not so high profile cars are ridiculous. But this is that particular "market". High rollers out to impress...and they have the $$$$ to spare.

At least the Challenger was a Convertible.

IMHO, the overpriced winner was the Blue '69 Camaro Z-28 Restomod for $182K.

It was originally a 6 cylinder car AND you can buy these entire car shells aftermarket now.

The Red BB car went a few car after the Blue BB car, good comparison on $$. Something must have been wrong with the Red one dispite what the Speed guys were saying about it, just my gut feeling. Did you notice some cars go over the block so quick and other just drag on. Makes you wonder what's going on between some people. How about 'ol Terry sitting back and buying one (can't remember which one) that was a deal for him and will probably go into inventory with another 50-75K added to it. Dennis

Now that is just plain stoopid.

You can buy your own 6 cyl Camaro for probably $5K, and spend $50K paying somebody else to make it into a Z28 modified street rod, if you shop around, and be $130,000 ahead.

Do you mean this car?

It was a Top 10 Hot Rod for Hot Rod Magazine that year. I had a poster of it hanging on my wall for almost a decade. It's obviously more well known in the hot rod hobby than the Corvette hobby. IMO, it was worth that $90K.

That was stupid you could have 4 of those build for that and never turn a wrench. I think the reason there so popular is you can drive them. The guys that will buy what ever is hot at the moment found out that when you buy a 435/427 # car you have keep it in a bubble and have someone work on it for you to hold the value. Restomod turn key and go.

Yeah - I saw that too right after the $90K C2 BB. A Hemi GTX went for $135K yesterday and as far as I know it was a real car. Go figure.

I love the term bubble car. I will have to start using that one. Funny but true.

Yes, heaven forbid you accidentally drive through a puddle in the street and get road splash on those expensively reproduced upsidedown white painted numbers on the frame and the accompanying rust on the bare cast iron driveline parts.

As I watched the Monterey car auction (I'm sure it was a rerun) on TV last week, I found myself dreaming.
There was a beautiful 66 or 67 AC Cobra with a 427 engine that sold for $250K (I think). I thought to myself, if I ever won the lottery, I would by this car regardless of how high the bidding got.
Point is...if you have the money and want something, just buy it and enjoy it.

I think some of it is ego and deep pockets. "look what I bought and its worth $$" It is bas for us because it artificailly inflates prices
