Default Car cover curiosity

I'm in the market for a decent 4 season car cover for a 66 Vette Roadster. California Car Covers was recommended by several friends as well as Sealskincovers.com/ which are a bit less costly. I want to buy a quality cover without paying the mark up
for the dealer or manufacture's name

The Vette will be kept indoors mostly but a road trip could end up spending a few nights outdoors . I do have cotton "dust covers" from other classics but the Vette deserves more.

Any comments on Sealskins or other decent quality covers being used?

Thanks

I can't offer a recommendation, but are you sure you want one? If the car is mostly stored indoors, will it need to be covered then? And, dealing with a soggy, dirty cover is no fun even when at home, much less when on a road trip. I'm sure others will chime in with some suggestions for you.

Live well,

SJW

Thanks for your reply SJW and point well taken. From experience with metal cars that I leave uncovered a lot of dust and pollen leave a mess and that's mostly what I'm thinking. Every time I take a car out it needs a wash. I live in the North East and air pollution is terrible.

The seller that I bought this from has covers on all his cars in a climate controlled dust resistant garage that looks like a museum, I'm not as fortunate with the storage I have. The car I'm brining home is Top Flight and I'm trying to keep it top notch.

I'll share your thoughts with others and I will be attending the May 15th NCRS meet locally.

i use tan flannel covers on ALL my cars, steel and fiberglass. inevitably dust, debris, etc will blow in your garage. rather it go on the cover than my paint.

Flannel works and even covers oy own body 365, I hate cold sheets.
CA covers are supposedly good and at their price they should be. Reading BBB reviews of different brands shows good and bad like "waterproof" being a joke plus 5 and 7 layering seems more like 2 or 3 . Delaminating layers,, tears,, failing seams and the description that caught my eye on Empire is "flannel LIKE surface".
Thanks, flannel is definite

If they sit for a while, i take my cordless leaf blower and blow the covers off before removing them from the car. This way i know i'm not rolling dust and dirt into the car cover that's meant to protect against those very items.

Any recommendations or experience for an indoor C8 car cover? I have a 67 427 Vette and have a California Car Cover but would like some other options that people have used.

Read through this recent thread. If it doesn't make you crazy you may find some of responses useful.

WOW, I read the thread from 3J's and see that there's a lot to consider. I have looked into flannel sheet goods and bed sheets to keep the dust off it and just need to keep any liquids away from the car. I'll ask the dealer why he suggest a cover and get his defense, He has 9 beauties in his "perfect" garage! The stall I will be using is dark and no climate control at all but the future stalls have heat, AC and a dehumidifier. Right now the intended garage is my work shop and dust of all sorts flies whenever I'm in there.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll get the car home and park it on the card board covered floor with the dehumidifier and keep an eye on the finish then decide what's worth trying.

Stay well, be happy!

In unprotected, remote space that is not under your direct control or supervision California Cover Flannel is the way to go. I own several. But I don't use them in my attached heated garage. Instead I keep my cars very clean and well waxed. I dry wash the dust off each spring and carry on. The dragging or even placing of a cover on and off the car leaves micro scratches. Unless protecting it from sunlight or potential debris or water, I would not cover a car.

Thanks Dan, good to know. I plan to drive it often and don't want to rub the finish unnecessary.

Pat, check out this post on car covers. It's been covered pretty thoroughly here and typically tends to be polarizing between those that do, and those that don't. You just have to pick your own poison and go with it.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...de-garage.html (oops, same thread 3JsVette posted)

I've purchased from California Car Covers in the past, they are good to deal with and generally carry quality products. I think their pricing is commensurate with the quality of what they sell.

Good luck... GUSTO

Default More important than the cover.....

A huge problem has to be solved before I worry about a car cover. I can't get an appointment to register the car in this island state surrounded my land on most of it's borders!

State of RI DMV is by appointment only. I've tried several times over the past 14 months to register my Harley and can't get one. I logged in 9 times today and no luck, only a pop up saying try again later. I had to pass on buying other cars because I won't drive them home without the proper paperwork. The local police say I can't drive a car on the road without
proper registration.

BUT, THIS STATE DOES REQUIRE THAT SALES TAX IS PAID ON TIME WHICH IS THE 20TH OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING THE PURCHASE! I cant drive it but paying taxes to this state is absolute or penalties will be added!

Just venting.... So much for protecting the car and finish!

It makes sense to go to the top. I called the Governors office today and one of his staff members explained how the RI DMV operates its appointment system, if you will call it that. I had to try every 5 minutes and that's how appointments show up!

Sure enough, I have an appointment next Tuesday! As far as a plate, this state hands them out when you register the car and they do not stay with the car when it's sold. Duh!
