Ferrari Yes Vette No?

This is a fellow selling a red Ferrari, go to the guys bid history and have a look at the last thing he bought. After that purchase, I guess he no longer (pun) needs a red Ferrari.

I have been told that Ferrari's at that mileage need to have an (extensive) expensive maintenance service performed by the dealer.
Cars without the ferrari service records are worth far less. If the engine on this car fails, it costs more than the value of the car to fix it.
Maybe he can use the accessory while he waits for the tow truck.

Aside from condition, the ONLY thing that matters when selling an older Ferrari is a fully-documented maintenance history (I've had seven of them), and he conveniently says NOTHING about the car's major service history; it's probably a time-bomb from that perspective, as are most of the 20-year-old Ferraris on the market, and is in need of an $8K major service before the cam belts fail and generate a $30K engine replacement.

major belt service every 3 years or 15K - engine out service ($7,500)
differential goes kaput @ 50K - $20K to replace, no service
Need alot of $$$$$ to play with these
------------------------------------
You can buy a 355 -they have expensive service issues + valve guide problems and manifold issues - all expensive to fix
-------------------------------------
Cheapest bet might be to buy a used 360 at $120K if you plan to hold on to it - more durable - just avoid the F1 transmission
--------------------------------------
Ferraris cost you anywhere between $1 to $2.50 per mile driven - not cheap
---------------------------------------
Kind of like a high maintenance trophy wife:
expensive
requires alot of attention
real expensive when things go bad

15-20 years ago, I got to witness the results of someone "playing fast & loose" with the recommended service intervals on a TR. Owner learned just how much valves & valve jobs cost...the parts bill alone was staggering. At the time, you could have bought a BB Vette for the cost of the repair.
If you can't do the work yourself, and you're actually going to drive the car, you should probably budget a five-figure amount as your "3-5 year maintenance fund".
Never owned a Ferrari...I got stuck in the Alfa Romeo world for a long time...but if I had one to pick, it would be a 246GT Dino (even though some Ferrari folks will insist that "It's not a REAL Ferrari"). Make mine a "chairs & flares" car....
