Default Harland Sharp rocker arms

I have an original SBC 327 with 462 camel hump heads. I’m running a stock GM cam called the 30-30cam with 2.02/1.60 valves. My heads have been redone with screw-in studs and guide plates. I started to install some Harland sharp #1001 this weekend and ran into a problem. The rocker arms are bottoming out with the stud. I’m running ARP screw-in studs but I noticed that they have a slight taper at the bottom. I could be running the wrong stud. Has anyone ever heard of this problem? If so what stud should I use? Or what could be the problem?

Where the heads ground down before the screw in studs were installed?

I told the machine shop to drill and tap for screw-in studs.

Well (not laughing at you, just the situation)

That does not mean they did what should have been done.

How far is the guide plate off the head? It should not be more than........ (I don't have a small block head, so; it's hard to tell you how much it should be but not much at all)

See (best I could do) how these are. If yours are not ground down, you will bottom out.

Here is a better pic.

You are right. When I installed my stock rocker arms, I had to use a washer to prevent the locknut from bottoming out with the thrends. Luckily, I can us my stock rocker arms. But, my harland sharp roller rockers ($209.00) will not work. If I ever take off my heads, I will get this problem fixed.

Please don't laugh but I have over $1200 in my 462 heads. (harden seats, 2.02/1.60 valves, screw-in studs, guide plates, and harland sharp roller rocker (now junk to me). I should have bought alum. heads and painted them orange.

It's a shame that some machine shop will take advantage of someone not in the know.

I guess they are mad because you didn't buy the rocker arms from them.

$1200 is not that bad. Consider it a lesson learned and move on.

I would bad-mouth the machine shop every chance I got.
