rocker panel molding
I had the hooker header sidepipe setup on my 65 and they trimmed the moulding to fit. Hacked it all up. I am putting factory side exhaust on and I noticed that some cars have the rocker panel molding retainers on and some don't. I dont understand the purpose of the little trim strip. Is it necessary? Also has anyone ever tried to convert a normal rocker panel molding to a sidepipe molding? Thanks.

Sidepipe cars use exactly the same retainer strip for the rocker molding as the under-car exhaust cars.

My retainers are currently AWOL. Does it just keep the molding from bowing or actually retain the moldings? My moldings are held on by a bolt and nut at each end. Do I need the retainers?

It retains the full length of the molding to the body so it doesn't bow or rattle; you need it.
