Just tri-angular to emphasize the tri-power triple carbs. Nothing more.

Ford had 3 Holleys on their 1962 Thunderbird Big Block (390) and they had an "oval" shaped air cleaner.

I had this setup on my own 1966 ex-NYS Police Car... 390 bored balanced etc.

And then there's the Mopar trips & their air cleaner.. and the Chevy 348 TriPower.... and the 389 GTO TriPower...

The triangular thing just makes it hard to manufacture an element.
