O/T Shelby Rent-A-Racer
Went to a little car show at a local church and didn't expect to see this. "Real deal" and I talked Mustangs to the owner for an hour...very pleasant afternoon!
This was one of my "Holy Grail" cars years ago when I was into Fords....any early Shelby Mustang actually -- never could score one though.

That’s cool Frankie. My neighbor helped his buddy pick up his 67 a couple months ago. I guess it’s kind of rare also. It’s one of the first 50 made that year. Notice the grille lights are close together and the turn signal light up on the side vent. He said that Shelby was in California at the time and they did not approve the grille lights close together or the side signal light so the remaining cars did not have them.

I have not been to the Scottsdale, AZ. Pavilion’s car show for several years now but there as one regularly there that was black with gold stripes and a 4 speed.
You are likely aware of the stories of when they were new of people with new regular Mustangs renting these cars and stealing the engines by engine swaps.

Owner didn’t have much history on his rental car but I went all over it with him. It’s in the Shelby registry and all the Shelby unique components were real. He let me sit in it with the car running gotta love solid lifters.

Very nice car and rare to see.
The one above belongs to my buddy who is into Shelbys and he just finished it's restoration about 2 years ago. It's the second one he has owned. I have lost all count of how many Shelby's he has had and restored over the years. He restored a 65 back in the 80s that he then traded off for another and it auctioned last year for around $440,000 at a Mecum auction . His son has a real early 66 (in the first 100 produced) that has a lot of 65 left over stuff on it and is supposedly rare. He's 80 years old but still going strong and doing a 63 Q-code 427 Galaxie right now.
Edit - second Hertz rental model he has owned I should have said.

They are nice, quick very streetable cars.....the 65 models (below #252) are the rarest of the rare with the Shelby lowered "A" arms and several other features that were dropped on the later cars. I know of one of those that went in the 1/3 of a million dollar range years back but I guess those have gone way up now....
I went over the one in the first post and showed the owner some things he wasn't even aware of and its a righteous car, 9" Detroit Locker, functional side scoops for rear brake cooling, the big brakes, the thick harmonic balancer, heavy front sway bar, fiberglass/steel hood - the works. I don't see that many cars I'm a bit jealous of at shows but this is one of them...

Drifting
I could appreciate other hot rods also, after all that’s what got us into this car craze... I remember growing up my neighbor down the street had this white Shelby same as what’s in this pic, thought he was weird sitting on the hood and cutting a hole in it for some type of scoop install, lost touch soon after that don’t know where they moved to & never saw car again?
I was parked next to a guy a couple of weeks ago at a local car show he had his original bill of sale on display in front of his car (mid year Camaro) with the salemen’s name on it, price, etc. (Dealership was Weed Chevrolet in Bristol, Pa. Has since closed up), later on in the afternoon I saw him speaking to a gentleman and they both looked to be into a very serious, almost to serious type of conversation with the somewhat sad/somber look on both of their faces, found out later it was the son of the salesman who sold the car, son spotted his dads name on bill of sale.. It was touching very touching moment for both of them, i was glad to witness it, We both didn’t win any trophies that day but I believe we both left with much more..
Never know what’s going to happen or find at a car show ?

These cars just ran the NE 1000 vintage rally with me about 2 weeks ago. This was taken at the Sagamore on Lake George. The mustang is a 4 speed Hertz car, the SW was very nice, the XK 120 is a vintage racer that is still raced, Marge and I were in the 280sl and the last car is a ghibli spyder. There were 40 cars in all

Yeah, I am overdue and should make a point to come down this winter however NOT during all the big auctions going on as it gets nuts.
