Power Steering for a 62 ?
Hi- I'm a C-4 guy who has a friend with a 62 that he auto crosses and vintage races. He's afraid that he may have to give it up as age and a bad back are taking their toll. One solution we thought about might be installing power steering.
Any advice on converting a 62 to power steering or a power steering kit would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

If he wants to keep the stock front end the only thing I can think of is the power steering they used on the full size early (pre 55) chevys. Digging up all the parts for that swap would probably be a real challenge, the pump ran off the back of the generator.

there was a guy here that made his own power R&P setup from a Dodge Omni rack, and Cranes Corvettes sells a kit; other than that, the only way i know to do it is a complete frontend changeout/

With all due respect, been there, tried that, and after collecting up the very hard to find parts I discovered that it was far from being a bolt in proposition and would require a fair amount of butchery to ultimately have a poor performing steering system. For the time and money spent there are better options as wfm62 suggests.

I am that guy!!!
If I did it again I would do it a little differently as I would call my parts "prototype"
But I must say I am VERY Pleased, It really makes driving much more enjoyable. I live in a city and if I am going to use my car it must accomodate parking lots and such, so it is truly a joy. And its quick too, responsive, turns in real nice, that original steering set up is was obsolete in 1949, when it was designed.
After collecting up the NOT hard to find parts!!!! I discovered that it was great and I had an excellent performing steering system.

Ecklers does not list it, and frankly I would never use that piece of crap that Crane offers (after viewing the Crane video, I would be surprised anyone would buy it). Looked to be a real cobbled together piece with leaks galore.
And why post to a thread that has been dead for 1/2 a year?
