Default 58 Transmission

Starting to organize parts for my 58 restoration. Have a 3 speed that might go with the car but can't figure out the transmission codes. Numbers cast into body are: M3 3858992 All 7, GM 10 3858986 All 7? Does any of this make sense, if not what numbers should I be looking for?

That's a 1966-67 Corvette Saginaw 3-speed, two complete transmission design generations past your '58.

Default Thanks

Thanks John,

Looks like thats what you get with a basket project. Appreciate the response, need to hit the swap meets.

Where is a good source for transmission codes. Tried goggle and found codes for S=saginaw, P=munie, etc. but none of that really helped on this number.

Did the A11 7 stand for January 11, 1967?

Yup

If you're going with a "correct" 4-speed, you need an iron-main case T-10 with a T10-1 main case, T10-7A tailhousing, and T10-148 side cover. A later '60-'62 aluminum-main case T-10 will work just fine, will cost a LOT less, and nobody will know the difference (unless they slither around under other people's cars on their back and are VERY skinny)
