White Wall Radials for a 64
Looking for White Wall Radials for my 64 Coupe. Many of the 205/75R15 tires that I looked at seem to be
1) A narrower White Wall that the 64 OEM Tires (I believe that the OEM tires were 1" White Walls), and
2) Seem to be "cheap", as in $50-60 price range. Not sure how good they will perform.
Are DiamondBacks or Coker speciality tires the only way to maintain the original look? Or, are there other ways to go.
I was looking at some Michelins, but they were only available in 205/70R15, and didn't know if they will fit.
Thanks.
P.S. Yes, my avatar needs to be updated to include the "Triplets"!!!!

I still have one of the original tires for my 64. It is a U S Royal Safety 800 whitewall. It has a 13/16" width. I'm running Goodyear Integrity tires, 205/70-15 that have a 23/32" whitewall. The same width whitewall is also on their 205/75-15 and their 225/70-15 tires. The Integrity has a slightly narrower thread width then some other brands, so they look a little more original, IMHO.

Rich,
They really look nice. Do you know the actual width of the stripe. I tried the Goodyear Web site, and it was useless on specifications.
Thanks
Ralph

Diamond Back will create any width whitewall (or redline, goldine, etc.) you want, any distance from the rim - just tell them what you need; they'll apply it to a current high-volume production radial tire that's round and will balance easily. Their Firestone Supreme 205/75-15 tire has a 1-1/4" wider tread than the same size Coker radial, and doesn't look "skinny".

John,
Thanks for the advice. Based upon the Web-site BF Goodrich does not make these tires anymore. It appears that most of the U.S.-based tire companies are owned by either Michelin or Bridgstone.
Send an email to BF Goodrich to see if they have a replacement suggestion.

Burning Brakes
Michelins With Whitewalls.............
I have a set on our 1966 Convertible and they are great tires. We have them mounted on the stock steel rims with 1966 hubcaps. No clearance issues that I am aware of. We have taken them on road trips of 200+ miles with no issues of any kind. In fact, our 1966 seems to run as well as our 1995 C4 Coupe which has much wider tires.

Interesting. Your safety 800 has a 7/8" wide whitewall and mine has a 13/16" wide whitewall. Mine was originally installed on my Oct 13, 1963 built 64. Most likely the difference is that they came out of different molds, even possible different mfg facilities produced them. Since the trend back then was to narrow the whitewall some each year, it's possible that your tire was produced earlier in 1963(or late 62) but they both were the same model of tire.

Guys,
Thanks for all your advice. Took Rich's lead and ended up with the Goodyear Regatta 2s. Nice look, affordable, and the local tire dealer had them within 2 days.
