Help - Leaking Heater Core clean up?
I was coming home the other night from a Cruise night and I started smelling that special smell you get when the car is running hot. I was only about 4 miles from the house and I made it home without the car running hot. After I got home I realized that my heater core had broken and I could see water and antifreeze on the passenger side floorboard. I would guess that I lost about a pint of fluid. I spent a long time soaking it up. My question does anyone know what to use to dilute the antifreeze and the smell. Luckily my car is a vert and the odor is not that bad. Hopefully I will not have to change out the carpet.
Thanks,
Thanks,

I would use the wet/dry vac first. I used Prestone carpet and interior cleaner to clean my carpet up. No stain, no smell. Your results may vary.

Go to the local supermarket...or hardware store and rent a carpet steam cleaner. They're cheap. Buy the soap and wash the hell out of it.
The machine has a vacuum attachment that applies the hot soap and sucks it up. DO NOT LET THE ANTIFREEZE SOAK INTO YOUR CARPET!
You will NEVER get the smell out. Don't ask how I know.

All of the above work. Suck (shop vac), dilute (pour more clean water on carpet), suck, dilute, suck agian, blot dry.
If your carpet has foam backing, it will rot and turn to powder in the affected area, but there is nothing you can do about it.
