Default L72 Intake manifold

I have what I believe is a correct 3885069 manifold for my '66 427/42. It has three holes for the carb, and the date code is on the underside, where no one can see it anyway. It is aluminum and it is dirty, but sound.

My question is is that NCRS says it should be unpainted aluminum with no glass bleading, wire brushing, or polishing - do I put it on dirty?

Search the archives, there has been a LOT on this topic. If you want it REALLY correct you might want to send it out for "refinishing".

But I just painted mine with Duplicolor Alum engine paint, just the right shine and protection for me!

Have you tried an aluminum etching solution?

They are getting hard to find because of EPA but they make aluminum look brand new

Try it on the underside first though make sure you like the result.

BTW it is nasty stuff and should you use it handle it with care....... a protective breathing mask would be a good idea

If you have a machine shop that has an aluminum shot blaster it`s as close to new as nothing else. Sand or bead blasting will provide a satin finish but not correct. I dont think a media blaster is correct either. I know the aluminum blaster is as if factory renewed.`

A good scrubbing followed by Alumiprep would be a good start.

If you want it to fly in judging with no finish deduction, send it to Jerry MacNeish (www.z28camaro.com) to be re-skinned.

Put some wheel cleaner on it.

Scrub with a soft brush.
