Default Trying to decide on a new motor for the 64

Trying to decide on a new motor for the 64 Coupe.

I've search through the forum and seen that the 350 motor from Year One / Derenbury Performance seems to have gotten good recommendations (350 ci 400 HP 430 TQ, http://www.dpmpower.us/smallblock.php ) mostly with the C3 guys.

I have also been told the the 420 Crusher Cruiser from Jon Barret Racing is another good small block alternative http://www.jonbarrett.com/420com.htm

Is anyone ruinning either of these in a C2? Did you have any clearance issues? It will be going into a 64 Coupe with a new Kiesler tranny.

Thanks in advance

I located a motor. Found one on Craigslist in the area for a deal I could not pass up.

It's a Jon Barrett Racing 370 Cruzer (Chevy 350 - 374HP @ 5500 & 400Torque lb/ft @ 4000). Engine has only been run on the dyno at Jon Barrett and appears to be in great shape. Can not wait to get it in the 64 with the new Keisler tranny.

Here are a couple of shots

Now if I only had anything left over for this (Street shops frame for a C2)

Let me put in my $.02 about this place.
I remember when he was building performance SBs in a SMALL shop out behind his house in McLoud, OK---------------------ONE ENGINE AT A TIME. Literally handbuilt with a lot of attention to details.
Now he has moved into a much larger, better equiped building in OKC. In the past, I've been impressed with his work.
NO, I have never bought an engine from him, BECAUSE I build all of my own engines. But if you don't build, or don't want to build, your own engine, then Jon's engines are the quality that you are expecting from someone that you know nothing about.

I think you will be happy with the Barrett motor. We put one of his 383s in my Dad's '34 Ford and it was a great motor. No problems and great power.
