Default Need advise: installing engine

I'm ready to install my new engine. I removed the engine and tranny at the same time. Is it best to install the tranny and then install the engine and bellhousing or should I do the install all in one piece (engine and tranny attached)?
Thanks

All in one if you can.

One big chunk is easier than 2 smaller chunks.

Do it in one piece. You will thank yourself later.

just make sure your equipment is up to the weight capacity, and if you have a tilt adapter to use that would be very helpful (as shown in the picture)

If, for some reason, you wind up doing it in two steps (tranny first, then engine) it isn't really that bad.

A few years ago I pulled the motor while leaving the trans supported on a floor jack. When reinstalling, I made sure the trans was in neutral and had a friend turn the shaft until the splines lined up and it slid into the clutch.

I pulled the engine back in the early '70s but don't remember which method I used then. I was in college and used to drink a lot.

Why do you ask? Why wouldn't you want to put it back in the same way it came out? Is it because you didn't like pulling the combo in one piece? If so, what was the particulare problem?

Usually it's easier to install the combo in one piece. You will want to have a helper and one of those jobbies that attaches to and tilts the engine.

You can install it in 2 pieces. Just a little more work.

I always do in one piece with the shifter on & the shifter handle off.

Do it in one piece but due to the short front end you have to almost start the tranny in tipped close to 75 degrees then slowly level it as you slide it back. All this is accomplished while rolling the car forward a bit. A tilter is absolutly needed in my opinion. Writig this makes it seem more complex than it really is by the way.

I own an engine tilter but recently found out that "Autozone" stores loans them out free as part of their tool loan program.

Good Luck

just remember to have the yolk, or a plug in the trans, or you end up with a puddle of trans fluid right where you need to be for the tranny mounts.
