Default Pics of '63 coupes with 6 or 8 tail lights

I've heard this was a popular mod in 1963. Any pics of split window coupes with 6 or 8 tail lights (instead of the factory 4)?

Only saw one with eight at a Corvettes of Southern California meeting at Selman Chevrolet in the city of Orange, late '67 or '68.

All my C2's have had six taillights. Always wanted to make 'em sequential like a T-Bird or Cougar. J.C. Whitney used to sell a relay to accomplish this for $20 or $30. If you could get it today that would translate to at least $150, even from Asia!

Wow,

6 tail lights looks great as long as they are all red. For years when the white backup lights were integrated into the circular lamps I don't think it would look as good.

Thanks for the pics!

Some more pics...

Reference to six tail lights...

Dead Man's Curve

I was cruising in my Stingray late one night
when an XKE pulled up on the right
and rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag
and challenged me then and there to a drag
I said, "you're on, buddy, my mill's runnin' fine
let's come off the line, now, at Sunset and Vine
I'll go you one better if you've got the nerve
let's race all the way to dead man's curve.
Dead man's curve
Dead man's curve
Won't come back from dead man's curve

The street was deserted late Friday night
we were buggin' each other while we sat out the light
we both popped the clutch when the light turned green
you shoulda heard the whine from my screamin' machine
I flew past LaBrea, Schwab's, and Crescent Heights
and all the Jag could see were my six taillights
he passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve
but I pulled her out and there we were
at Dead man's curve

Well, the last thing I remember, Doc, I started to swerve.
And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve.
I know I'll never forget that horrible sight,
I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right
won't come back from dead man's curve
Dead man's curve, Dead man's curve
Dead man's curve, Dead man's curve
Dead man's curve, Dead man's curve

Thanks for the pics.

All red tail lights definitely look better. Anyone doing this mod should just incorporate a white back-up light in the license plate housing and go all red on the tail lamps.

The eight-light owner with four BU's must have night vision challenges!

And the green '67 with extended white stinger stripe is one of top '60s Corvette salesman Bob Wingate's dealer demo cars, now restored and being shown in So Cal.

Now that car is just perfect. Flares and t-lights. The way GM should have made them. There were so many cars with the 6 lights that a common misconception was that you could order the like that as an option called "the California Option"

Actually you could do it for just a couple dollars now using 555 timing chips and relays and could set any duration for the sequencing. (You could even do this with just the pair of tail lights..., inner-outter/inner-outter or inner-pair/inner-pair, etc.)

Default 63 split w 6 tail lights to go

63 FI had headlights glassed in and sprayed a neat tangerine/root beer color. Of course 3 tail lights to go.
