Default Meguiars' Plastx for Convertible Windows

I have a minor scratch and scuff on a very nice convertible rear plastic (flexible) window. Has anyone used this product to clean things up?

Paul,
I have used their cleaner and polish and have been very pleased with the results.

Paul,
Let me back up here for a minute. I am not sure their cleaner and polish that I have used is called Plastix and I am not at the garage to check the name.
Sorry,
Rick

Rick,
I believe Plastx supersedes the separate bottles of cleaner and polish.

BTW, a bit of heresy in the thread I guess. The question relates to my "new" C3 (1974) with a very nice Haartz Stayfast canvas roof that I would like to keep nice. But the crux of the question applies to C2s as well.

Is that red or maroon? Looks great both ways but isn't it a little cold outside to be driving with the top down?

What is all that WHITE STUFF????????????????

Have used a product named "Blue Magic Plastic & Plexiglass Cleaner and Light Scratch Remover" for many years (with good results). Same company that makes Blue Magic metal polish.

Edit: Cannot find this product listed anymore.

Is that made by the old " Blue Coral" company. I used that back in the late 60's. Lot of work but long lasting!

Well scratch the Blue Magic Plastic Cleaner. Did a web search and could not find it any more.

And no, Blue Coral and Blue Magic are 2 different companies, but the Blue Coral website does have a nice pic of a C1 on it (have to click on the center "Blue Coral emblem" until it come up):

That was the day it came by transport from Tennessee and was delivered to my house (April 5). The car was not licensed for the road.

No, I still have it. No luck here on the Forum despite many thousands of hits on my ad. I will try to sell elsewhere.

The white stuff (snow) is very much with us. It was 28*F last night.

If you are referring to the white spots on the canvas top, I used RaggTopp cleaner and fabric protectant with a terry cotton towel that left a lot of belly button fluff. Need a better material.

The car is code 974, medium red metallic. The interior is code 425 dark red/oxblood. I have some cleaning/restoration to do but here it is. I've done a 1979 L-82, the 1967 coupe, and here we go again with a 1974! But FWIW, I always start with a car that is >80% already there. I don't have the techical knowledge, skills, or facilities to take on the bigger challenges.

Paul,

Glad that snow isn't all still there, we don't have any left an hour south. You might also stop by a motorcycle dealer and ask what they recomend to clean facemasks if the Plastik doesn't work.

Nice C1 pics. That's when they made a liquid cleaner that you used first and then the gruelling paste wax job. Looks like they went with a simpler and probably not as good approach now.

Never used the Mequiars plexiglass/plastic cleaner but have used the BMW convertible glass cleaner with excellent results on the my C2 convertible top and hard top too.

Funny someone mentioned Blue Coral. Still have 3 unopened cans and about 1/2 way through one can of the original paste wax. Had them for about 17 yrs at the time my father told me that is what he used to get a great shine back in his day (1950's). Wasn't easy to find but bought all the cans I could find back then. Use it only on the "good" cars.

Nice looking C3.

Thanks for the reply. BMW will not make such a product themselves. It would be interesting to know where they source. For example, GM Final Detailer has a Meguiar's logo beside the AC Delco logo.

Yeah, I first used it on my first vette in 68. Back then it was in every NAPA. Years later I looked for it and it bacame "Blue something else" and was never the same. Hold onto those cans. Lots of elbow grease but nice and lasting results.
