Speedometer in Km/hr ??
Hello,
Any idea where I could find a new speedometer face in Metric (ie; km/h) for my 66?
>> Less worry with the radars/speed checks here in Europe...
Thanks

No need Mate, just remember the following;
60km/h = 37mph
70km/h = 43mph
90km/h = 56mph
100km/h = 62mph
110km/h = 68mph
Thats what we do in Australia.
Also I would check your speed while travelling next to a late model vehicle to ensure your speedo is accurate. You never know with changes in tyre size, diff ratio and an old speedo if your speedo is reading accurate. I have been booked here for 4km/h over!

80 kph = 48 mph
100 kph = 60 mph
110 kph = 66 mph
120 kph = 72 mph
etc., etc.
These quick calculations leave you just under the speed limit. Pretty simple.

Tach work?
Been driving 'Old Blue' by his tach for thirty years. Just do the math.
All you need to know for certain is your tyre revolutions/kilometer and your axel ratio.
(notice how tire is spelled.)

PB,
If you want a new Speedo with Km/h I'd like to highly recommend Harrison Speedometer, in Jupiter, FL.
I spent several hours at his shop yesterday and I can not say enough about his workmanship, quality and process. HANDS DOWN it is second to none....
www.harrisonspeedometer.com
Tell Bill, David sent ya. That may cost you a few bucks more, but it's not who ya know.
BTW-I have no affiliation/connection with his shop or operation.
Good Luck,
David

You can have a speed ratio adapter made to increase the speed of the cable driving your existing speedometer to indicate Km/hr at the existing face numbers (i.e. reading 110 mph on the gage will equal 110km/hr road speed). The ratio adapter is a small inline gear box that will drive the speedometer cable output faster than the input speed. You would need a ratio of about 1.62, the distance ratio difference between miles and Kilometers.
Jaguar (Smiths?) used to have an adapter with a ratio of 14/11 or 1.28 that could be used with two adapters installed in series for a ratio increase of ~1.64. This kludge of tandem adapters would result in the speedometer reading slightly slow.
The drawback to this is potential speedometer or cable damage if you take the C2 over the gage's maximum limit of 160km/hr (~100 mph).
Here is a ratio adapter vendor and a link with the math and a link with an article about use of adapters for calibration.
You will have to make some overseas calls or e-mail transactions, or find a local vendor on your side of the pond, to see what they can come up with.
Good Luck

Speedo in Km/hr
Thanks guys...
Doing the maths, converting miles/hr to Km/hr, is what I've been doing for the last few years... I even though about sticking a few pieces of fine line adhesive tapes to identify the 50, 90, 110 and 130km/hr which are the std speed limits here...
But I'm really looking for a no brainer solution, simple and clean
Thanks RoadKing96... I'm going to contact Harrissonspeedometer right away.

I agree with Garry6672
You can also write it down on a post it note and stick it to the dash as a quick reference untill you know it off by heart.
An other way is to check it with a GPS then you will know how far out it is and then write the speedo readings onto the post it note.
Hope this is of some help also

You can buy just the speedometer face from any of the Corvette suppliers... here is one from Corvette Central for around $32 USD...

Then send the face off to be re-silk screened... most instrument restorers can do it... I am sure these guys can do it for you...
