Default 1967 build sheet or broadcast sheet

I need an answer about the vin# for my 1967 Vette. I have my tank sticker and there are two numbers at the top:
1)the "Ident.no." which starts out with an "8" (a total of 6 digits).
2) the "Order no."which starts out with a "1" (5 digits). I understood that all mid-year vin#'s have an extra "1" on the vin tag. after the "S" for ex.: Vin#194677S118747, which means it was a '67 roadster and was the 18,747th car produced in 1967. Can someone clarify what the two numbers on the tank sticker are? Which one of the numbers on the tank sticker is the corresponding number on the vin# tag? Can someone in the know, possibly a NCRS judge, explain to me the difference. Thanx!

the ident number and the order number have nothing to do with the vin number.

The vin you give breaks down as follows: 1=Chevrolet, 9=Corevtte, 4=V8, 67=conv., 7=1967, S=St.Louis plant, 1=explained to me in the past as a "GM control number", 18,747=build sequence number or the 18,747th 67 Corvette built.

If my memory is correct, then 1) Ident. No. would match the last 5 digits of the vin, the 8 being another control number, not having an effect on the vin. The Order No. was just that, an order number assigned to identify the order placed for this particular vehicle.

Your Tank Sticker also would have had a job number hand written on it . This was a number assigned at St. Louis to this car and I think it would correspond to a number hand written in crayon on the passenger side lower firewall/floor area.

The person best to answer all this for you though is Al Grenning. AL has done quite a bit of research on identifing original and repro tank stickers, as well as engine stamp pads and trim tags. I think he can be reached at: ALGRENNING@AOL.COM.

The "Ident Number" was assigned by St. Louis when they accepted the dealer order for production, and has no relationship to the VIN, which wasn't assigned until the body entered the Trim Line.

The Dealer Order Number was pre-printed by Chevrolet on the order forms furnished to the dealers, and has no relationship to the VIN either.

Those two numbers are the ONLY ones that followed the car all the way through the order and production system to the dealer.
