Default 1958 Duntov Factory Experimental 283?

For several years now I have been hearing about a fellow selling what he has labeled as a 1958 Duntov Factory Experimental 283.

I called the owner of this motor years ago and listened to his story and although I remember little of it a few things stick out in my mind. He stated that there were two such experimental motors built in 58 to showcase some aspect of the corvette motor. One motor was installed in a boat and the other in a corvette. He said the two vehicles traveled the country in a press campaign.

I have tried to find information in regards to this press campaign, and even a boat and Corvette brought together by GM.

Any help in trying to identify what this motor is would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't see that on ebay. Do you have the link to the auction? I'd love to actually see picture of what may be so special about this.

I took a look on fleabay and the auction must be over. I remember very little about the engine auction other than it was being called an experimental engine, yada yada yada. Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe it will get relisted and we will see if this is the same one.

I remember seeing it on Craigslist the other night, but I'm not sure what city. I look at allot of Craiglist ads these days so I apologize I can't remember which site it was on.

Actually it was the ad on craigslist that reminded me of speaking with the fellow. Is there any thing that could prove what this motor is claimed to be?

Yup, the casting number and the pad stamp; otherwise it's just more "smoke and mirrors".

Probably has an "X"cast on it. An amazing number of supposedly knowlegeable people think that because it has an "X" on it, it's experimental.

Default 283 engine

I think this guy lives in Poughkipse NY. I've spoken to him about this engine he is suppose to have,He also claims to have a set of expermintal heads also. The numbers he gave me weren't even close. You might find it in a newspaper or magizine that is called special interest. Comes from Conn. Area.I'll see if I can get a copy of it and give his # for anyone interested. The paper I've seen it in is called The Bargin News Special interest Vehicles. Published in CT.

That's actually where I first found his number, and I think it may have been kingston where he was.
