First Corvette: One Year Later
Hey Gang!
Just thought I'd say thanks to all the friendly folks out there in CF land who've helped me out, and otherwise added to the entertainment value of the Corvette thing.
I bought my '64 coupe 1-year ago today, and it's been an eventful year. The car was driveable when I got it, but not nearly as driveable as it is now. Here's what I got done in the first year:
- minor tune up & oil change
- rebuilt alternator & new voltage regulator
- replaced missing jacking tools
- rebuilt carburator
- differential pinion seal
- re&re gas tank and weld up leak/seal tank
- driver's door glass channels front/back & repair lock mechanism
- battery and hold down gear
- repair clock
- and not to be missed, the rusty frame repair at the kick-ups!
Throughout all this, I got approved for Collector plates and reduced insurance rates, took it to three car shows, one auto-x, two major back-mountain road trips, and countless jaunts and cruises around town and to the local beaches. All in all I got just over 3000 miles on it in the first year inbetween the repairs. Good times!
Next in store is a couple of NCRS events, where I will get the low-down on the extent of, or lack thereof, original/unrestoredness. Which may include a big-ol' road trip to Bend, OR.
Then it'll be time to plan out the next phase of the project...

Congrats - its nearly one year to the day since my first vette; my '61 270 hp 2X4. I have done about 5X as much to this car as you have listed and its mechanically sound and completely reliable now. This happened just before a truck threw a rock and broke my windshield so its off the road again. I figure I have 1,000 miles on the car.
In all frankness, the pleasure to pain ratio on this car has not been very good compared to the several '60s Mustangs I've owned. I worked on those cars a reasonable amount but got to drive them nearly as much as my modern cars. The vette on the other hand seems to need something or other done every third time I take it out. I'm hoping this 'phase' will pass AND SOON !!!
Likewise I am highly indebted to the fine folks on this forum or I would have sold the car about 6 months back out of frustration !

Very nice!!!! It’s great that you’ve been able to get projects done and also keep it in the road. I love to drive my vette and I love to work on it … but I never want to do too much of one without doing the other. Look’n good!!!
