Pictures of the Sunshine Coast: Last Cruise of Summer
Hey Gang!
Well, it was the last day of Summer, and what with the Special Lady Friend out of town and all, I figured it was a good time to take the '64 on a little jaunt up the Sunshine Coast - which is on the opposite side of Howe Sound...
It started off a little wet getting out of town:
I made my way through West Van, and onto the ferry:
And the weather started to clear up on the ride over:
I went north up to Port Mellon to check out the Forestry Service roads that wind up through the mountains and come out at Sechelt, but they were not paved, looked pretty nasty, and were closed. So, I headed back for the more conventional, paved route:
I worked my way along the coast and took a break at the Sargeant Bay Provincial Park:
Which was real purdy:
I worked my way up to Pender Harbour and stopped for lunch at a nice Pub with a view:
Feeling fortified, I took on some more coastal twisties:
And made my way up past Earl's Cove to Egmont and the trail-head for the Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park:
And walked the trail for an hour to get to the Narrows:
A few sprinkles of rain told me it was time to walk back to the car, and by the time I got to it, it was raining a bit:
But, it cleared up after a ways and the roads improved:
I made my way back down the coast with enough time for a stop at Molly's Reach for an oyster burger. If you're old enough, and Canadian enough you probably know all about Molly's Reach from watching The Beachcombers - a classic CBC tv drama. If not, then - here it is:
And then got back to the ferry terminal and waited for the boat:
And as the weekend and summer drew to a close, I made it safely and without incident back into town:
12 hours, a half-tank of gas, 178 miles, two ferry rides, and a couple of meals along the way - made for a pretty nice day!

Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures Darguy! It's one of the most picturesque
routes I've ever seen. Molly's Reach brings back fond memories.
Although, it's not immediately apparent why that route is called
'The Sunshine Coast'.

Thanks for sharing those pics, and it's great to see a Sting Ray being driven like that.
I'll take a SWAG and venture to say you probably didn't see any other C1's or C2's along the way.....?

Good Job
darguy, Man that was a swell trip to say the least. Car did not melt and you proved it could be driven in the rain. Go figure. Glad to see you enjoying that car the way it was intended. I drive when I want and let the weather take care of itself. Thanks for the pics.

Great pictures and looks like it was a specatacular drive, but that must be the "Liquid Sunshine Coast"! There is some beautiful scenery up there for sure. Some of those pics remind me of the West Coast Trail, on West Vancouver Island, that my son and I did a few years ago. We Love B.C.

Looks like a great day.
As soon as I saw Gibsons written on he map, I immediately remembered Relic, the jet boat, and Bruno Gerussi... I always thought the show was 'kinda corny, but the boat and scenery were cool. It don't get much more Canadian than that, eh!
