Default Mice in Storage

With C2,s not being as air tight as new cars are today, how can I keep mice from getting into my car during long winter storage.

I'd get some mouse poison- the kind they eat, get thirsty, leave and die elsewhere. Had some mice get in my outside ac compressor and chew the wires. Put some of this poison inside the unit and have had no further problems.

Google "mouse bucket antifreeze" You will see several helpful websites that detail how to build a reusable mouse trap that resets itself with each mouse caught/killed.

OR-R-R, they may crawl inside your car and die!! Leaving a terrible stench that is very difficult to get rid of. Store your car in as mouse proof storage as you can. Keep the area clean and leave no sources of food that will attract mice. Keep the bait as far from the car as possible. Cats are good if this works for you. Some say that bounce dryer sheets in the car will repel the little beasties. Also mothballs but from personal experience the naptha smell is as bad as the mice!!!

Poison and traps are about your only option....after buying my '61 in Aug of '07 I was working in the gas tank area and found a nest the size of a softball....nasty but I cleaned it out and sealed up the area. Then, months later when I redid the interior I found the deceased owner of the nest (see picture). I freakin' hate rodents.

I use Bounce fabric softner sheets. They keep the mice away and smell good.

Don't moth ***** work as well? You can the device that you plug into an electrical outlet that puts off a sound that keeps them away. I got a cat to ensure they keep out of my place.

Mice like cozy, concealed places. It's counter intuitive, but leave your hood open, leave the trunk open (if it's a C1 or a Grand Sport), don't put a car cover on the car.

Mice hate change. Move the car from time to time. Close the hood (and or trunk) for a day or so. Then reopen them.

Get one of those ultra-annoying noise makers and place it under the car. This works best if you have a detached garage where the sound won't reach your house, of course.

Put glue-traps around the baseboards of your garage/shop.

I hate mice.

I store my 67 in a "CarBag" thru the winter. Not only does it keep mice out, but moisture is kept out as well yielding ZERO rust during storage.

I keep my cars covered in a garage together with 2 outdoor cats that have access through a pet door. There are no mice around ... at least live ones!

I've used the D-Con stuff. If works, until it runs out. I've used traps, they work until there's something in them. Little stacks of nuts around the garage. Mice turds everywhere. I've had all the problems you can imagine with mice.

A couple years ago, I read on the internet about using bounce sheets. I didn't think it would work but I haven't had a mouse problem since I started using the bounce. I put one inside each car and several around under the car.

It's worked for me.

Make sure you have the tach/speedo firewall grommet in.

Guess what that nest stuff is under the air cleaner.

That's the underdash insulation on my 67. And all of it

When I was prepping my car for the body shop, I saw a little piece of something like this (they love jute carpet and firewall material) sticking out of one of my frame rail holes. I pulled a little and more and more and more kept coming out . Turned out the darn mice must have been living in there prior to me getting the car and the side rail was COMPLETELY SOLID full of stuff. Took several days to get all the stuff back out and clean out the inside. I was lucky to have found that before it caused some serious damage. Remember, they can enter a hole the size of a dime. Next time you are under your car, take a long wire (coat hanger) and check your frame rails to be sure they are clear. Pilot Dan

Air tight as new cars? crap!

I have had to evict mice from my Corvettes heater fan and my wife's Camry heater fan. Since then, I spread baits around, put out dishes of green antifreeze, and keep electric repellers plugged in. So far, so good.
