Default Need help identifying a 327 from 60s

I got this block from a friend and was wondering if anyone can help identifying it. It's a 327 small journal and he said the guys he bought it from said it was from a 63? corvette but didn't believe him. Then I looked up the markings on the front of the passenger side head deck pad and the 'HK' came back as either super high performance' or else a truck engine. Any help? Here are the markings on the engine:

That's easy.

Casting number 3914660

1968-69 327 block for Passenger, Chevelle, Camaro, Truck

Assembly T0423HK

Tonowanda engine plant - only a few '65 Corvette small blocks made there. All other small blocks were Flint.

04 - April
23 - 23rd day

HK
HK 1965 327 s h/p, a/c, m/t 365 4 Vette
HK 1968 327 Powerglide 250 4 full size
HK 1969 350 Powerglide 300 4 full size

Partial VIN 18U173929

18 - Chevrolet 1968 model year

U - forget the assembly plant, but NOT St. Louis, so it isn't a Corvette VIN.

Since we know it went in a non Corvette in 1968, it has to be the 1968 327-250 horse in front of a Powerglide.

Correct - it's from a '68 Impala/Caprice built at Lordstown.

I'm resurrecting this thread since I may be parting with this motor very soon. So this is absolutely not a z06 engine? It's definitely a large journal 327.

Nope. It's not a performance engine of any sort, was manufactured five years after the Z06 went out of production, and the large-journal crank confirms its 1968 origin; it was built at Tonawanda, and all Corvette small-blocks came from Flint V-8. It's an ordinary full-size passenger car 250hp Powerglide engine.

Thanks John. I figured the large journals sealed the deal. It's just stupid though for GM to use the HK code on the holy grail and the bottom of the barrel
