Negitive battery strap
We picked up a "braided" neg. battery strap for the (63 w/air driver side battery) . Does any body know where the strap mounts to the motor, I can't find it in the assy. manual.

Have you checked the A/C section of the assembly manual, where the C60 option package is described?
On my 65 (which may have no bearing on your 63) the negative battery cable is a cable as opposed to a braided strap, and mounts to a bell housing bolt, I believe just above the opening for the clutch fork.

steve, i can't see that braided steel strap. but what you are discibing is the ground strap on my 64. it is attached to the side cover on the muncie to the trans crossmember on the frame. it is a ground strap. you can put it on from underneath your car. maybe john Z will post pics of the ground strap. fiberglass doesn't conduct electicity, thus the need for that for that ground strap to make the starter motor work. the spent elecetricity has to get back to the battery. that strap does that....

On a '63, the braided ground strap attaches under the rear alternator mounting bracket bolt - see your Assembly Manual, section C60, sheet 5.00.

The braided strap is correct for a '63 with A/C - it didn't change to a conventional ground cable with A/C until '64, when the attachment changed to a left side bellhousing bolt.
