Safety Car
Us bubblegummers in south county pestered anyone we knew who worked at the Chevy plant for a Corvette shifter ****. We dreamed of someday owning a vet to go with it.
If you worked at the Chevy plant, MacDonnells (the air plane foundry) or THE BREWERY (Bush), you were held in high esteeme.

Yea, Those glory days are all gone!!! Well, I guess there is still the GM plant out in Wentzville, MO.
But now a days not many people are holding them in too high of esteem.

Cool picture. My first good car was a '61 Impala.
Does anyone have a picture of how the plant laid out? I work at Pepsi in St. Louis which sits on the old Chevrolet property. I was just wondering how our facility sits vs. the old and sacred Corvette plant.

See the photo below - the Mill Building (Corvette plant) is the square one at the upper left.

Melting Slicks
Does bring back memories! My Dad starting selling GM cars in 1958 (Olds and Chev.) at Mid City Chevrolet and I used to hang out at the garage a lot on Saturdays. Remember telling my Dad in 62 at the dealership that I wanted to have a car like that (62 white/red int. 4sp car in showroom) and make $100 a week when I grew up.
