Default 283 Questions???

Guys a friend has gotten a hold 283 c.i. with block casting #3789935 and head casting #3814480. From the research I have done the block was used from 62-64 in trucks and passenger cars and the heads were used from 60-67 on 283's and 327's. Is this a Vette block? We know that it didn't come out of a Vette because the intake manifold is for a 2-barrel carb. Is there any other things we should check? Main Caps? 2 bolt, 4 bolt?

This web site: http://corvette-world.com/corvette_1...ng-Numbers.php indicates it could have been a VERY LATE '61 vette block. However, from the same web site, the heads do not match up to any year vette. If you get a number off the stamp pad (up front on the engine on passenger side) it will provide more info.

If it is a Corvette block, it will have a VIN stamped on the pad as well as the assembly date. 283 were always 2 bolt mains. Never a 4 bolt.

Default 283

Block casting number is for 61-64 283. You'd have to check the stamping on the deck for specific usage. The cylinder head casting number is for 60-67 283/327 70cc chambers, 1.72/1.5 valves.
