Kissimee vs BJ
So far the Mecum auction at Kissimee is a pleasure to watch. The cars move through fast and not 45 minutes of commercials in each hour.
It's worth viewing. (Mr Mecum gets a little 'over the top' in his actions)

Team Owner
Does he ever; he was laughing and hollering at one point and beating his fist on the roof of one of the cars the other night. It might have been the '68 Shelby but I'm not sure. If I was the owner I would have been seriously PO'ed...

Does Mecum charge a Buyer's Premium like BJ charges 10%.
I looked at one of Mecum's Consignment forms and their commissions are listed at 4% for non-reserve cars, and 6% for reserve cars. These commissions seem far more reasonable than the 8% BJ charges.

I've been at the Mecum auction for the last three days. All in all a very pleasant experience. Mecum is serious about corvettes and muscle cars. More low key than BJ (have not been to BJ) but a lot of nice cars with far less vendors and commercialism.
I learned a lot at the Mecum auction in the last three days. Nice, well documented desireable cars are still commanding serious money. Investors see them as a better investment than stocks, bonds and banks. I thought the market softened but not for these cars. Lesser quality restorations and cars without documentation were far more reasonable though some of them left me scratching my head with the prices they were getting.
Many lessons learned. Very glad I attended.

Yes there's a buyer's premium. And much like B/J, there's additional fees just to enter, based on premium spots, TV, etc.
Its not reasonable to compare Mecum events to B/J. Different altogether. Mecum is just getting started in the TV entertainment aspect of it. Their auctions are not meant to be the spectacles B/J are.
And I dont believe either do much of verifying anything... that's on the seller.
