Default muncie side cover

Is there a fix for the shift shaft holes on the side cover? I always had a leak on one. After a couple careful new seal installs, my verdict is the hole must be elongated. I know I could get the side cover from 5speeds, with the nice bearings, but am contemplating if I want to spend the $160.00 for it, or find a decent used cover, but that seems frugile. Any ideas?

I had a very very small leak on my 66 Corvette Muncie at one of the shifter shafts. I used a socket of the correct size to lightly tap the bearing and then applied some clear silicon adhesive which I leveled off a little proud of the surface . After that dried I reassembled the lever and it has never leaked.Clean the area with lacquer thinner before applying adhesive.

Buy a new side cover and be done with the leak.
