Default How to possibly remove tar undercoating

I have a light coat of black tar-like undercoating on the entire undercarriage.

Any ideas on various ways of removing this?

Is soda blasting an option?

Thanks in advance,

Don

Default This works well

If there's some thickness to it, first heat it and scrape off as much as possible. Use a plastic or wood scraper.

Then, spray on some kerosene, let it work, and wipe off. Scotch brite pads might be necessary.

If your coating is tar-based --this will take it all off, leaving the 'glass looking like new.

Diesel fuel also works well, usually cheaper and easier to obtain than kerosene as well. DON'T use gasoline . . . .

Eastwood makes an undercoating remover that is in an aerosal can. Reports I've read on it indicate it works pretty well.

I used to take the tar like sound deadening material and undercoating of showroom stock cars that I raced in Firehawk and World Challenge very easily and without chemicals. You put the car outside in the winter (it worked in Canada and will work in Nebraska for sure.) The stuff freezes and you can tap it with a tack hammer and it shatters. I used to get almost 200 pounds out of the car like that..

When we're paving roads, and we need to get it off our trucks (or anything else), the only way to go is use diesel fuel.

I used a heat gun and a scraper to remove the majority of undercoating and then used wd40 and scotchbrite pads for finish work.

I put my hand on the outside of the fiberglas so I could feel the heat and not let it get too hot.
