Default wiper problem

My windshield wipers stopped working. I noticed the wiper motor was very warm when I touched it. Also when one of my braided plug wires touches the motor it will spark were the wire touches. Its also pulling a drain on the battery. I pulled the wire off of the motor for the time being. My blower motor also stopped working...fuses are ok. Wher should I look first for the problem?

Sounds like the motor is internally shorted to the case. May be a loose wire inside the case. I would certainly disconnect it before it damages something else.

Jeff looks like you have a BB check the wire on the starter (from blower motor) also check to see if your ground wire on the starter bolt is ok

The blower motor and the wiper are on the same ground. You just lost that ground. Go ahead and ground it and it should go to working.

Make sure you keep it disconnected until you locate the problem, we lost lotsa vettes due to wire fires. The motors sometimes would not properly stow the wiper blades in the closed position and they would sit there and overheat until a wire finally caught fire. Prolly would assist in burning your house down if it's in the garage also. On the plus side here, these motors are easy to work on. They come apart with two screws and everything inside is easy to see and fix. I cleaned all the old grease out of mine with a tooth pic, solvent and a Q-tip. That alone made all the little spring thingies actuate the connectors. A liberal amount of light grease later and it was working perfectly. Been 3 years now with no probs..... :D

Same thing in my BB when I got it 14 years ago - the ground was missing.
