Default VIN Plate Question

Hey folks,

While I can think of a bunch of reasons this would be a problem, I wanted to ask if there is a way (and if so a place) to get a "correct" replacement VIN Tag for a '58 made.

In short, there is a '58 for sale where the VIN tag that is screwed to the door plate has been misplaced. He has a clear title for the car and the matching VIN on the frame is present, so wondering if it is possible to get an original looking VIN tag for the door frame in the event I buy the car.

Thanks in advance!!

So, you just flipped the body off to the side and there was the VIN?

To give you a good solid answer. I would say there is no way to legally replace the VIN tag with one that looks original. A state issued VIN could probably be installed, but I would want that all taken care of and done before I bought the car.

Buying a car without the plate would be risky in my opinion.

The car is a shell with no motor, interior, etc. and the guy has photos of the vin on the frame from when the body was removed from the frame previously (this is when the vin plate went missing during that restoration) - I have not seen the stamp on the frame myself yet, but will confirm before buying it if I decide to.

There is a link from another post here today about trim tags back east - I will lookup this up and see what the deal is.

Thanks!!

Ken,

Just look no further than the door jam of my 59. It is a Backeast tag. There is also another Silver coupe that you see on a regular basis that has a Backeast tag on it as well!
