Radio Delete Option
Hey friends. I have a question about my 63. When I bought it years ago, the owner told me it came with the Radio Delete option. Well, I have always assumed this was true. Can anyone tell me how to find out if this car is truely a radio delete car or if they guy restoring it just fixed it up with what was available. I don't have the tank sticker or any past documentation but from running the numbers it seems to be restored original with correct motor, vin etc. Just thought someone would have some info for me. Thanks in advance.

start looking for capacitors, ground straps, spiral static collectors, and then remove the radio and look at the cutout for both the radio and the radio *****. Rarely do people take the time to cut out the "eyebrows" for the trim around the *****. Oh, ignition shielding is another component.
My car was a radio delete '66 where the owner added it later and these are all items that were dead giveaways after I started looking for them.

Also look for a non-factory antenna. The Am radios didn't get the ground plane. If it's am-fm, it should have it. Non GM antennas wouldn't have it either if it's a generic piece.
If you don't know where the capacitors and ground straps are, ask.

radio
To clarify, the 63 currently DOES NOT have a radio. However, I do have an antenna on the left rear side which I have thought to be suspect when I bought it. The owner/physician that originally bought it and had it professionally restored also said it was a radio delete car but was not sure why it had the antenna. It could be a number of reasons why it is like that including someone put a radio in and never took the antenna off because of the body work involved when fixing it up. Either way, I have not looked too far into it. Just wanted some of your thoughts or suggestions. Sure wish I had my original sticker

30837S111202 was ordered without a radio by mistake. You had to specifically check the radio option U69 in 1963 and not until about 1979 was one standard equipment and you had to check option UL5 to have a deleted Vette. A fraternity brother offered to get the car from his uncles dealership, Clark-Maple Chevrolet in Chicago and forgot to mention the radio. The rest was correct and my Dad picked it up. But no radio. .....

First, in honor of Duke, might I suggest we not refer to such a C2 as a radio delete car, since, as others have pointed out, the radio was an option, it was selectable, not deleteable. Better to call it a "factory no radio" car. This was one of his bugaboos, as I recall.
Second, I can provide SNs of at leat ten 63s that were factory no radio cars, if anyone is interested.

What's in the center of the dash where the radio would be installed?
Is there a hole there now?
Is the center dash uncut for a radio installation? Factory no radio cars did not have ANY cutout in the dash for the radio. It was left "virgin" fiberglass.
Do you have ignition shielding? Factory no radio cars had NO ignition shielding, and no capacitors to decrease RF interference. No ground straps on the exhausts either, and no evidence that they were ever there. (unthreaded holes where the screws would have gone).
Also, factory no radio cars did not have an antenna, although as I remember, many factory no radio cars had the antenna hole patched at the factory.
Need some more info to more accurately answer your question.

GLAD you noticed that I used the proper terminology. I know you're a stickler for the proper use of the English language.
Before I began to read your posts MANY years ago, I called 'em "Ain't Got No Radio" cars.

My '65 came from Clark-Maple. The location is a BMW dealer now. Oh well.
