Default Okay, let's see how good you guys really are...

Whenever I see a pre-1968 car on the roads at night, it makes me appreciate the safety value of side marker lights.

Problem....my '67 has no side markers.

Question....how would you light-er-up without it looking like you hung Christmas tree lights on it, and without cutting fibreglass?

Okay you geniuses........over to you! :D

It's got to be LED's
They are very flexible and low current..
They come in red and yellow..
Not sure where you could put them yet though..
Never really thought about it..

The only thing that bothers me is the missing right mirror..

Funny,
when I change lanes, I still look into that missing mirror

My wife catches me and laughs

If you really see a need for them, I think you could put some some "trailer lights" inside the wheel wells so that the glow from them at night would reflect off the wheels (but they could not be seen during the day). Connect them with dual element lamps and to the existing turn signal lamps, and they would flash bright just like modern side marker lamps do (but glow all the time the headlamp / parking lamp switch is on).

How about some of those purple halo neon under car lights the ricers and low riders use? :) Chuck

If you can find a way to integrate them, the street rod guys make several varieties of LED "Strip" lights (maybe install one in the side gills). You can also get bumper bolts with a light in them (but Vette's don't have exposed bumper bolts). Maybe you could adapt the light from one and put a small hole through the bumper for it. What about making a new side emblem that is actually a LED or lense instead of the painted portions?

I read your post and I know you don't want to drill holes. I hate answers that don't address the problem or don't answer the question. I am going to offer this anyway because I have seen it done and it works. I don't like cutting up the body myself, I will change anything mechanical but i like the body original.

Consider the side lights off of a 68 Chrysler product. They are very small and unobtrusive. About the size of a quarter. I have seen this done on a few cars in my hometown way back when. A lot of guys had cars w/o the lights like your car is. When they saw how neat the conversion looked on one particular car they copied it. Saw it done on pre 68 Chevelles and on a Vette or two.

You guys are doing great. Thanks.

The LED ideas have got my grey-matter chuggin'.

Hmmmmmmm! Maybe I'll ask my buddies over in Factory Correct Resto for an opinion on some of these ideas. [Helmet on] :smash: [/Helmet off]

Keep 'em coming!

Clip 'em onto the bottom of the wrap-around bumpers

or

Polish the inside of the bumpers, and put lights inside - the effect should be like indirect lighting, and illuminate off the body

or

Don't drive at night :D

I thought the flames out the side pipes would be enough!

Default STICK LIGHTS IN THE GILLS OF YOUR SHARK

67HEAVEN,

STICK LIGHTS IN THE GILLS OF YOUR SHARK. Your local Harley Aftermarket store will have tons of cool turn sigs and you could run all of the wires inside under the hood? May look cool at night?

Your idea deserves some thought.

How about very small clip-ons (using magnets) that could be removed during daylight hours?

Now what about a power source? Can't run wires out the windows or I'll never get the windows up when the rain comes. :jester

Tom,

Your thinking cap is on!

Guys, are there any tapes that appear alsolutely clear in the daylight hours, but pickup headlight reflections at night? Our company vehicles have reflective lettering.....but I'll bet that CLEAR reflective tape is available. Good one Tom.

Since those of us on this thread seem to have drivers, I like the idea of a bracket, (stainless) off the side bumper bolts. Could be small and discreat, contoured/rolled edges. Run the wires on the inside of the bumper to the bracket entry point of the body. Wada ya think?

Another great suggestion.

Although most of us don't like the idea of adding on some lights, if they're thoughtfully designed and relatively small, I'd take them over a side-collision one dark and stormy night.

Imagine your pre-'68 with a SUV grill planted in the side!

OK, there's something that came on my first car...a 66 Biscayne 2-dr (orig 283 auto!)...stick-on reflectors! Since 66 was also PSML (pre-side-marker-lamps) when I got it there were small reflectors (maybe half-dollar size with a chromed plastic "bezel" making them about 2 inches in diameter) yellow for front and red for rear. I do remember replacing one that had fallen off and the original paint was as nice where it was stuck as the surrounding area. (Remember that this was a motorhead's first car so I spent LOTSA time keeping it clean!) Now this was in the early 70s so if such a thing is available now I would think that the adhesives are better so as to leave less paint marks. In a pinch double stick tape does wonders!
