Detroit folks - Familiar with Vette Restorations in Southfield? Opinions please
I am looking at Corvette Restorations in Southfield, MI to do some stuff I don't have the skills/tools to do - mainly, lift the body and remount it. It was pretty much bubba'd on before. Have any of you worked with these guys, and if so, what are your opinions? Thanks.

Can't comment on them as I've never heard of them. If I were you, I would contact Tom Sammit at 248-596-9546. He's in Novi at 12 Mile and 5. Works out of his shop on the property where he lives. Real good guy and does top notch work.

Thanks. I like the location (right in the middle between work and home). I am open to more opinions. This was my mom's car, and it is my honor to carry it forward. I want to do things right and make it last so one of my daughters can be the next caretaker.

Dave,
Not to argue about your experience with Tom, but I have seen the work Tom has done on a one owner 63 roadster to get the car back to running condition after sitting for many years. The car received a TopFlight at Chapter judging and would have been a strong candidate for Bloomington Survivor if the family decided to go that route. I also have seen numerous other examples of his work and have been impressed with attention to detail. Tom's only employee is Mike Phillips, who use to work at Masterworks (Werner Meier). This is not a knock on Werner, as his crew did a great job on my car after a 12k accident. As I previously stated, I believe both to be great restorers of Corvette's, Werner just has a larger operation.

If you're talking about the white 63 convertible, I saw it before he was done with it. What a great old original Vette. I've seen work from Werner and Tom and I wouldn't be afraid to take my Vette to either place. In fact Werner did the resto on my 65 11 years ago and I spent many hours working along side him and his small crew that he had when he was working out of his garage in Farmington Hills.

Dave,
Yep that is the one, the Dad bought the car new and one of the two sons convinced the family to get the car running again. My buddy had his 64 Survivor next to the 63 at Michigan NCRS Judging and heard a guy offer the family 100 grand for the car. They turned it down.

Awesome. Thanks for the info everyone. I'll be putting the steering column back in this weekend, finishing the carpets and seats next week, adding fluids and turning the key the week after that. Wish me luck. Looking forward to that bonus check at the end of the summer so the body can be put on right. If I save up enough bonus checks, I'd love to take this back to the original Daytona Blue w/White Leather/Dark Blue trim (899GE code).
