Default Radial tire pressures

Read with interest the thread on 63-67 radial tire pressures and am just a bit curious if 53-62's are the same or differant due to weights.

My 61's curb weight is approx. 3035lbs and is fitted with Diamondback R205X75X15's. I purchased the tires 2 years ago and they have made a huge differance in the cars ride, steering, and handling in general over the old bias ply 6.70X15's. At the time I purchased the Diamondbacks the sales person suggested 35psi, is this too much? The old bias ply's were aired up at 28 per the owner's manual.

Thanks in advance,

Jerry

It's all compromise, I run mine at 32. 35 psi will steer a little easier but will ride a little stiffer, might help mileage a touch.

Going from high 20s to 36 pounds increases my BFG T/A life almost 50%. Harder ride but better handling.

My 4 year old Goodyear's 215/75/15 are kept at 28. This was the recommended pressure from the tire dealer Kelsey for the best ride. I will be increasing the pressure to 32 to see the difference in steering and drive-ability.

I run 32 lbs cold on my 61 with radials. That ends up being around 36 lbs once they warm up.

32 fronts, 28 rears cold (different sizes with the fronts being 215/60-15, and the rears being 235/60-15).

I run 28lb cold in my B.F. Goodrich radial on my '62. After heat builds up the pressure goes to about 34 or 35 lb

Well . . . . . . after reading the previous post regarding tire pressures, and this one . . . . when I went out this morning I dropped the tire pressure in my '66 with 205/75R15's from 32 to 29 psi cold, just to see how much difference in ride it would make.

Pleased to say that it made a significant difference in my judgment, but I'm not sure how much difference it will make in tire wear. But, with the mileage I put on my cars (not much), I don't think it'll matter too much. I think I may leave it at 29 psi cold for a while, at least for around town driving that I do. Maybe increase it to 31-32 if I start out on a trip.
