Default best tires for stock 63 C2?

i had Conti 215/70 HR 15 till last summer. As they were sometimes touching the right front fender (some damage), i bought Diamand Back 205/75 R 15. They look good, but handling is terrible. Any recomondation, what about 205/70 R 15? which Brand? Thanks, Peter

Howdy. Diamondback doesn't manufacture tires, they bond sidewalls onto other brands of tires. What brand of tires did they sell you?

I have Diamondbacks on my 63. They are Firestones. They handle great.

They may have lettering on the untouched sidewall.

Otherwise, if you didn't note the sticker that was on the tread when the tires first arrived, you're out of luck on finding out (unless you have a photo of the tread pattern).

3 years ago Diamondback was selling Firestone brand tires for most 63-67 corvette applications. Firestone Indy 500s in wider sizes, Firestone Supreme in sizes that approximated the original Bias Ply widths.

Did you look on the inboard side? They normally only scuff the outboard side where they add the sidewall feature.

Default the info found

thanks for the help. The brand is on the inside: it is Golden Fury GFT 205/75 15. And they really handle terrible. Splitty swims an Amphicar when you drive 55 mph on the freeway.

Ok, that's an Eldorado brand tire.

http://www.eldoradotire.com/downloads/

Eldorado tires are manufactured by Cooper

Discovering that information doesn't help you find a good tire I'm afraid, but at least now you know what you don't want.

I have those same tires on my 62 with a 1" whitewall, purchased from Diamondback. Due to many unexpected failures with the car, I've not taken it for a test drive in the 8 months the tires have been on there. But, I don't plan to drive the car in the rain so I'm hopeful your bad experiences will not translate to dry weather behavior for me.

Hi Jeff,

i never drive in the rain. Since i have the tires, my 63 split window just swims, it does not drive straight anymore. Also the cornering is really bad, compared to before. I thought is might get better when the tires are "diven-in", but no.

I liked the 215/70 Continetal i had before, but they touched the right fender.

So i thought smaller, like 205 might be better.

As i am planning to go to Monterey with the car this Thursday, i have to solve the problem soon.

I am tending to Pirelli P 4000 Super Touring. On a German BMW forum a lot of guys says they are best for their sixties BMW's.

Oh, that's different! I misread your Amphicar reference earlier

We'll have to see what my 62 does. I went from a 20+ year old bias ply, to these, so there should be a big change of some sort.

I've seen a lot of forum members recommend the P4000s for a mid year.

Pirelli P4000's are great, however if you want good handling and a little more fender clearance, you might want to look into a 215/65R15.

Here is a Pirelli P4000 215/70R15 on my 65:

Hi Jeff,

sorry, i did not read the previous post correct. I do not want to encourage you, maybe i am just to spoiled. I really like to drive my old cars a lot. And the handling of the c2's is not too bad. So i really can tell the difference with the new tires.

Thanks for the info about others with the Pirelli's

okay, i had 215/70, which were touching the fender on the right, so do i have to go to 205/70 or 215/65?

Or what about 195/65 the P6000 comes in this size

The 205/70 and the 215/65 are just about the same diameter, but the 215 is 15mm wider than the 205. I had 205/65's on the 65 and they were a little too small in diameter, but handled well. The 195/65 would look like temporary spares on you Vette.
