Default c2 front springs

HI... Sure could use some advice................

I just installed a pair of front springs (VDP 460 pound version with 7 coils) on my 67 and driver side sits lower by about 1 inch. I removed the springs and reinstalled them to make sure the springs were in the pockets like they should be and they r still lower on the drivers side.

Question..... do the springs have a top and bottom side to them ???? and could I have them installed incorrectly ??? By looking at them I could not see any difference..

Thanks Walt

I dont think those make any difference which way. Did you switch sides just to see if that made a difference?

Did you drive it after you were done? You need to to unload any tension.

Did you seat them both at the top, in the spring tower on the frame, per the Assembly Manual?

HI John..... yes seated both at the top and bottom. They both have pockets for the ends of the spring. Before I put the shocks in...I looked up from the botom to make sure the springs were seated correctly.

BUT one thing that I did not mention cause I did not think it made any difference...... to expidite the process.... I had a upper and lower control arms from a 76 Vette.... so I cleaned them up painted and installed new bushings/ball joints, etc. When I removed the control arms from the 67, put them both side by side and they looked the same. However, did not take any measurements. I was always told that the control arms were all the same.

Question: R they the same or could they be the reason I have this problem on the drivers side.

Tx Walt

The '76 control arms shouldn't make any difference. The springs only seat at the top - doesn't matter how they're oriented at the bottom; the hole in the recess in the lower control arm is just for water drainage.

HI John..... I'm glad to know that the 76 control arms r the same..... i removed both sides today. Springs r the sames. Swapped them and the results r the same. I removed the lower side again and installed a spacer and now both r about the same height. Thanks for the assistance. I wish i was able to explain the reason of the unequal height. But.... perhaps oneday I'll find out................ Tx walt

Were the springs you took out a matched pair or did someone put in two different ones to hide a problem? I'd do a little frame measuring and look for cracks/damage.

I would check the springs that were removed also. Did you measure ride height before removal? There are measurements in the AIM page E124. This may help identify any problems with the frame and suspension.

Is it possible that one of the control arms from the '76 is bent? You should not have to shim one side if everything is correct. I would also have some one look at the frame also to see if it does not have a problem.

Hi 6T7...... the springs i took out were the stock ones that had 10 coils. They looked the same removed. They were sagging so I installed a couple of twist in spaces to raise the car so they would not touch when I hit a bump. Therefore, replaced them along with a complete front end rebuild. Tx walt

HI Chris..... Yea.... will eventually have to look carefully at the frame. Altho the underside of the frame looks unhit and no evidense of any work underneath. Thanks to all the folks who responded ....I appreciate your input...... Aloha Walt
